Pale or nude pink is one of the must have colours for this  S/S fashion season …. It’s so easy to match it with soft gray and charcoal, navy or washed out denim, beige and ivory.

I really love that natural palette so I wondered if I already had something matching that ‘cherry blossom’ range of shades ….

spooky fashion by McQ alexander

McQ Alexander and his adorable skulls!
For a/w 09 McQueen, twisted a sublunary object, the skull, into must have, desirable accessories. I dream of his skull printed scarf, but for now, I am quite happy with my skull printed cardigan. It goes well with my cotton black dresses, especially the ragged one. I can easly combine it with a black leather skinny belt and a pair of tights with holes to achieve a slightly more dramatic look. It could also be a nice outfit for those of you, who celebrate Halloween, yet avoid the whole masquerade. You would just need to paint your finger nails in black, add some fake blood drops on your pale powdered face, throw in your best BLD and this lovely skull cardi. Voila! A  chic harmless vamp is born!

Fashion promotes smiling!

During my trip to Amsterdam I spotted a great slogan on one of the shop windows. It was Laundry Industry, one of my favourite clothing shops in the town. The window display wasn’t really exciting this time, yet what grabbed my attention was a really cool and catchy slogan:

“everybody smiles in the same language”

I find this quote very meaningful and inspiring. Smile breaks all language boundaries and plays a significant role in human nonverbal communication.

I’m glad to see smile is in fashion :)

I love chunky sweater dresses and I’m telling you, I can never have enough of them!

Last week I was very lucky to spot at H&M my new essential knit dress for the upcoming cold months. This lovely pale pink dress was a real bargain – just £ 12.99! I’ll be cosy and comfy wearing it together with plain black leggings and a pair of black lace up ankle boots.

I decided to go for a simple look because the cable knit and the oversized turtleneck are already decorative enough but you may want to accessorize the dress with a bird brooch from JoY or a long chunky scarf for a bit more edgy look.

Keep yourself warm, darlings!

I shouldn’t have done it but I did! Yes, I did buy another T-shirt. I love my new tank top, it’s nice  and soft and quite long and the print is so “wild” and it looks great with my skinny torn jeans :) I bought it at Bullfrogs in the centre of Greenwich (London). Now, I think I need to “invest” in a long, charcoal knitted sweater coat to go with it. Oh no! My shopaholic nature has woken up again :)

midnight moon

Twilight Saga Books

Wolves, Twilight, Fashion …

I am a big fan of printed t-shirts. I usually wear them with a pair of simple leggings or skinny jeans, adding a long pendant to accessorize the look and finishing it with a black boyfriend jacket and a pair of ankle boots.

I was just browsing through the Polyvore images and spotted some amazing wolf t-shirts. Straight away they made me think of the Twilight saga and some brief shivers passed through my skin. I think I need to update my wardrobe with one of those cool spooky tees. I can’t resist possessing one!

Have you ever thought about wearing shoe monsters? You better do! We still have fall and winter to pass by but I am telling you the next S/S season will be a “hot” one. Prepare yourself for a shoe transformation and get inspired by Alexander McQueen’s grotesque shoe creatures. Notice the inspiration from Nature – snake skin, honeycomb, rainbow fish and precious stones. McQueen’s stilettos are absolutely disproportioned, comically ugly, twisted and totally odd, yet I’m predicting everyone will love them in six months time and I can’t wait for a high street version of those monstrous beauties!

A couple of days ago I returned from my voyages across Eastern Europe. During my trip I fell in love with Lviv, a sleepy town with that odd hidden vigor. Once Polish, now Ukrainian, Lviv preserves its authentic feel, multiculturalism and “Eastern” alterity in many ways. However, besides the town’s beautiful and unique tourist attractions, my attention was called by the quite obvious high heel obsession. It looked to me like a strong fashion statement among the local ladies. I spotted so many girls, who, without revealing any sign of discomfort, would walk in their stiletto killers on Lviv’s cobblestones throughout a day and night. I wonder how they manage those glam sky-high walks ……

Attention: online addicted fashionistas and Burberry lovers!

Get ready and excited for a bright new site, artofthetrench.com, to be launched by Burberry next month. Burberry’s “fresh” social networking site aims at building and enhancing its relationship with potential customers and existing devotees. The power of social media and online communities sounds attractive to the people behind the luxury British label, however it’s the concept that grabs the attention of us, the future followers. Burberry uses its iconic piece, the trench coat, to make the site appealing and easily associated with the label. The choice is not surprising but let’s hope for a real arty challenge and visual representation of elegance, urbanity and style. Burberry already uses Facebook Fan Page and Twitter to promote itself and keep in touch with its enthusiasts. Follow them for updates.

FT online reports that Scott Schuman, famous blogger of The Sartorialist, is going to deliver us an unusual collection of images of people wearing trench coats. Schuman will be spotting those people in the urban streets and feature them on artofthetrench.com.

It’s time to dig your trench coat out from your wardrobe! Give it a twist or wear it in a classic, sophisticated way and hope Schuman’s wary eye will spot you! Be ready! Keep watch!

Think: Life with Nature

Think: Casual relaxed attitude

Think: Flannel check shirts and dresses

—————————————————————————————————————————–

I spent the last couple of days in the South of Germany, eating yummy sausages, walking through the corn fields and woods, eating fruit from the garden and wearing comfy rural clothing. For this spontaneous trip to the countryside, I took with me my new flannel check shirt from Gap and absolutely loved its softness and the small, neutral checks. One sunny morning, I styled my friend Antje with a flannel purple dress from Tom Taylor and her black shiny wellington boots. She looked amazing with that soft edge and folk charm emerging from her outfit. I finished my look with Gap biker shoes and thick woolen socks from Next and off we went on the Nature walk.

Flip through the recent issues of fashion magazines and you will find countless sparkling shopping pages and editorials.

“It’s time to sparkle” says Grazia. “Disco diva” says Vogue. “The Glitz and The Glamour” says Elle Collections.

There is no other choice but to blink, wink, shimmer, shine, gleam and flash in the A/W season!

A couple of weeks ago, Antje, a friend of mine, was visiting me and at some point, exhausted after a busy day in The City, we started fooling around, digging in my closet and playing dress up. It was like being 10-13 again. She tried on one of my “recent investments” and fell in love with that flapper sequin dress straightaway …. So I grabbed my camera and let her turn into a shiny butterfly ….

I love London and its diversity, dynamism and originality. This is a city of modernity and conservatism, a city of contrasts where different every-day-realities melt all together. There are hundreds of secret corners that offer something unforgettable, something unique, something  inspiring.

Brick Lane, one of my favourite areas of London and the epicenter of the Bangladeshi community, is a place of disorder, culture melange, vintage fashion, vibrant treasure and trash market, unconventional individuals and attention grabbing street art.

Visiting Brick Lane is like experimenting Indian culture and quirky London at the same time, where tradition meets liberation and liberation meets tradition, where Easts meets the West and West meets the East …

What fascinates me about Brick Lane is its kitsch, energy and the history behind as London’s centre of textile.

Today, Brick Lane’s identity can be explained by what’s happening on its walls …. pure madness ….

Ps: Fashionistans and vintage stuff lovers  – don’t miss Beyond Retro shop and its classic, ageless vogue treasures at bargain prices!

Passion for Fashion in a fairy-tale style ….

London. Fashion Styling for Professionals at Central Saint Martins – a course, which gave a new direction to my fashion dream.

Styling is not about mix & matching & accessorizing clothes – it’s s about presenting clothes that hide a story behind, that boost the wearer’s self-esteem and look desirable. It’s about playing with clothes wisely, giving them meanings and life. As a stylist you have to be versatile but always sure about your own view on fashion and the visual identity you implement in your editorials (fashion stories). As a stylist you have to be ready to deliver perfection at all times, the words “it’s impossible” don’t exist; what exists is you doing more than possible to make your fashion story absolutely perfect.

The A/W 09 trends, me and my team worked on, were fur & sheer. Those two opposing ideas made us really excited about sophistication and delicacy, about seduction and fear, about masculinity and femininity, about nude and wrapped, about fragility and animal instincts … this is how we found ourselves twisting a well known fairy-tell “Beauty and the Beast” … this is when our concept of “beastly beauty” was born … a goddess ready to attack if you ever cross that line of her territory …

There was an endless preparation and  a long photo-shoot but eventually The Furrytale fashion was brought to life!

The End.
